Well, this is the 1st day of our Prima Donnas Blog and we are very excited to have it up and running at last. So what to say about the Dubai Music and Entertainment scene in the Summer? One of the hottest places on the planet just now, but Greece is catching up fast with 50 degrees! Some of our favourite artists are providing music to match the temperatures, and of course, we have our bands, etc. in Maldives, where it is a bit cooler just now.
Starting in July, we also want to ask some of the local artists to contribute their views and experiences on the Dubai scene, and how that compares with Abu Dhabi, as the two main entertainment areas. Some have been here over the years like me, and have seen many changes, while some new to UAE must find it different to performing in other countries in many ways. I think it will be interesting to get broader views over the coming months up to the Festive Season, on how things are constantly evolving for performers.
When I first came to Dubai in 2008, there were only a few agents and not many more performers. How that has changed over the years. That's of course natural and as it should be, but at the same time, it must be difficult for clients to make a choice these days with so many agencies out there promising the world, but not having the experience or backup to achieve it.
With my agency in South Africa, we did something like 500 weddings over the years. Weddings are very different here and require a lot of understanding of the local culture and customs to plan carefully. That was one of the first things I experienced. Over time, the rules for performance have relaxed a great deal, and this has really helped integrate the different nationalities and types of music and dance to be accepted by all living here.

Indeed, the music scene has changed so much over the past decade, and all for the better! Suddenly, the summer hiatus has become a fully fledged high season for many artists, great for those who decide to remain in the UAE for the summer months and also a clear indicator that the Emirates attract tourists all year long!
With such an influx of new artists in the UAE, it is becoming a challenge to choose wisely and not compromise quality VS quantity. This is where a good agency adds value and saves time AND money, by curating and proposing the best acts to meet clients' requirements.
